Annual Review/Preview of Scan's Hottest Topics for the Past Year and the Coming Year
This December 2006 issue of
Scan Monthly provides a quick review of several
topics of strategic concern that may not yet figure prominently on the radar screen
of planners in large companies. "Women, Achievement, and Gender Equity" looks at
the groundswell of highly qualified women who will be emerging from institutions of higher
learning during the next decade, creating uncertainty and opportunities concerning their
role in the business world. "Disruptive Health-Care Remedies" discusses unconventional
sources of potential solutions to the serious problems that some health-care systems face.
"Sustainability" continues Scan's discussion from 2006 about the business implications of
increasing interest on the part of governments and consumers in developing processes and
products that are ecologically, economically, and culturally sustainable for the long term.
"Crowdsourcing" examines the practicality and increasing use of a process that requests
the world at large to work on a problem and then harvests the best solutions. "Virtual
Worlds" discusses the various tasks that companies and businesses are taking to a variety
of online environments for innovative solutions. "Senses" describes how companies are
using and integrating all five human senses to serve as new products and services, product
differentiators, branding tools, interface mechanisms, and data processors.
